T.O. May Be Heading to Canada
He ain’t done yet, folks.
You may have heard that Terrell Owens won’t be in Canton for his own HOF induction. (He’ll have his own ceremony at Tennessee- Chattanooga). And despite the fact that he’s seemingly feuding with just about everybody in the NFL right now, T.O. can’t stop, won’t stop. He decided that he’s officially interested in the CFL when he activated his 10 day window with the Edmonton Eskimos this week.
For those non-CFL people: that means that Edmonton (who owns the rights to the soon-to-be HOF wide receiver) has until 07.26 to decide if they want to offer a contract or release #81.
It would be awesome to see T.O. in the CFL, IMO.
Before this year, I’d never watched an entire CFL game. (Shoutout, Comeback SZN). My prior experience consisted of Doug Flutie highlights and catching a game here and there. But I’ve watched a shit ton of CFL since the beginning of preseason this year. In short: The rules are bananas. The end-zones are clownishly big. There is a good amount of talent. And most importantly, it’s football during the football off season.
T.O. would fit perfectly.
I can’t imagine he’s able to play anywhere near his prime. But a 44-year-old T.O is still a lot better than at least 50% of athletes on this planet, right?
He says he can still play, so I say Canada gives him that chance. If Johnny Manziel is any indication, the fine people in Canada love them some ex-NFL personalities. And this one happens to be a Pro Football Hall of Famer.
If he’s offered a contract, he would be able to play on 08.02. FWIW Edmonton is 2nd in the west right now.
…which is on exact same day as the HOF annual game.
I refuse to believe this is a coincidence. If we know anything about #81, it’s that he’s that petty. Probably because they’re sending him his jacket in the mail, if I had to guess.
Sure, he hasn’t played in the NFL since 2010 when he caught a 72 passes from Carson Palmer and they went a whopping 4-12. (PS: That was also the Ochocinco year. What a world.) Sure, he got invited to the Seahawks training camp in 2012 after his stint with the IFL, uh… didn’t end well. Sure, he was released from Seattle before the regular season even started.
Sure, he has one of the most inflated egos on the planet, has acted like a dickhead at times and it seems literally nobody in the NFL wants him.
But…
He can still run sub-4.5 40.
There’s no question he still has something left in the tank. How much? TBD. But he’s one of the best wide receivers to ever play the game and he’s entertaining, to say the very least. People love him. People hate him. But there’s damn sure nobody that’s apathetic to him.
Do the right thing, CFL. Give the people some more T.O.
